Eric Scott Band July 4th

Jul 04, 2017 03:00PM

Washington, D.C. area musician Eric Scott has to date enjoyed a varied and interesting musical journey. As a touring bassist and vocalist, Scott has performed on numerous stages throughout Europe, Canada, the Caribbean Islands, Central America, and the entire United States. While building his reputation as one of the area's most sought after sidemen & session players, Scott wrote and released three solo records, DIVINE STATIC (1999), LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE FOOLS (2002), and RED (2007), to critical acclaim. The journey continues with Scott's fourth release WHERE THE WATER RUNS DEEPEST (May 2012) on the Itzall Goode Music label (Indie). DEEPEST further explores the neo-soul, funk, and pop influences of RED...but Scott's sound continues to evolve. It is no less confessional than RED...maybe even more so...and is even more personal and intimate with it's stripped down production and arrangements. While the performances are first rate, this release is all about the songs and the voice; and they are wrapped in a sheerer, warmer, acoustic package.  •         Event is rain or shine. The NoWhere Men July 9th

Jul 09, 2017 04:00PM

The NoWhere Men were formed in the early 1960's in Hyattsville, MD, and in a short period, became legends in the DC area. Today, that legacy is still alive. They were young men, boys really, that got together from different parts of the Washington Metropolitan Area and not even old enough to drive. Supporting parents and older siblings would witness the music coming from their basements and garages, and offered to drive them to their performances.Soon enough, The NoWhere Men became one of the hottest horn bands ever to hit the D.C. music scene, performing blue-eyed soul with rich harmonies unsurpassed in the area.Their cover tunes encompassed a wide array of music popular at the time. Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chicago, The Ides of March, The Temptations, Four Tops, Parliament, Sam & Dave, James Brown, Tom Jones, Clarence Carter, as well as rich melodic groups and performers like The 5th Dimension, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, The Grass Roots, The Associations, Bill Deal & The Rhondells, The Guess Who, and The Righteous Brothers, to name just a few.Today, the NoWhere Men have - through nothing short of a miracle, and a lot of faith - reunited to perform a series of concerts for all their loyal fans who want to take a ride down memory lane.Join us and step back in time. The Spinners July 15th

Jul 15, 2017 07:00PM

The Spinners were the greatest soul group of the early '70s, creating a body of work that defined the lush, seductive sound of Philly soul. Ironically, the band's roots lay in Detroit, where they formed as a doo wop group during the late '50s. Throughout the '60s, the Spinners tried to land a hit by adapting to the shifting fashions of R&B and pop. By the mid-'60s, they had signed with Motown Records, but the label never gave the group much consideration. "It's a Shame" became a hit in 1970, but the label continued to ignore the group, and dropped the band two years later. Unsigned and featuring new lead singer Phillipe Wynne, the Spinners seemed destined to never break into the big leagues, but they managed to sign with Atlantic Records, where they began working with producer Thom Bell. With his assistance, the Spinners developed a distinctive sound, one that relied on Wynne's breathtaking falsetto and the group's intricate vocal harmonies. Bell provided the group with an appropriately detailed production, creating a detailed web of horns, strings, backing vocals, and lightly funky rhythms. Between 1972 and 1977, the Spinners and Bell recorded a number of soul classics, including "I'll Be Around," "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love," "Mighty Love," "Ghetto Child," "Then Came You," "Games People Play," and "The Rubberband Man." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Spinners_(American_R%26B_group)   This is a rain or shine event. Out of Order July 16th

Jul 16, 2017 04:00PM

Out of Order formed in 1988 when Bob, Mark, and Mike rejoined after having played together on other projects. After going through a number of lead vocalists and a few drummers, the band welcomed Rob to the microphone in 1994, and Dan to the drum kit in 1999. With the lineup set (for the next few years), Out of Order became a cohesive unit with a repertoire of music that reflected the diversity of their musical backgrounds and influences. Late in 2013, Steve joined the band. His love of classics, the Beatles, and alternative rock rekindled an interest in long-forgotten music. Today, Out of Order boasts a play list so diverse, they can play entire shows aimed to please everyone from big band to classic rock, alternative to pop, ballads to modern rock. The Gin Blossoms July 25th

Jul 25, 2017 07:00PM

In the late 80’s, Gin Blossoms started to grow a huge following as the #1 local music draw in Phoenix and certainly were the hometown heroes of their favorite hang, Tempe, Arizona.Gin Blossoms indelible jangle-pop sound was evolving during radio’s diverse mix of hair bands and grunge music superstars. They qualified to perform at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin Texas in 1989. That same year College Music Journal dubbed them “The Best Unsigned Band In America” and added an invitation to perform on MTV’s New Music Awards in New York City. Their breakout record New Miserable Experience was where their rise to fame began. This album kept the band on the chart for almost 3 years with singles “Hey Jealousy,” “Allison Road,” Until I Fall Away,” “Mrs. Rita,” and “Found Out About You.” The crossover hits on New Miserable Experience played on 4 radio formats and, to date, have sold over 5 million records. Those hits were followed up by “Til I Hear It From You” which rocketed to #1 and moved the Empire Records smash soundtrack to platinum status. The track also became Canada's longest-running #1 hit of 1995, its #1 tenure lasting six weeks. This song was co-written with the great Marshall Crenshaw and Billboard described it as “the closest thing to a perfect pop song to hit radio in recent memory.” Their next gem “Follow You Down” spent ten weeks in the top 10, and "As Long As It Matters" earned the band a Grammy nomination for "Best Performance by a Duo or Group” making their Congratulations I’m Sorry record another multi radio format favorite and multi-platinum success.Having dominated radio and MTV playlists for most of the 90s, Gin Blossoms took a brief turn of the century hiatus, a provisional parting of the ways that singer Robin Wilson chalks up to “personal dissatisfaction and the mistaken impression that we could perform at that same level with another group.” The brief break allowed guitarist Jesse Valenzuela and Wilson to re-energize via solo recordings, new combos, and production credits for an array of local Arizona acts. However, Gin Blossoms’ idiosyncratic magic proved impossible to ignore for long, and on New Years Eve 2001 in their hometown of Tempe, the band reconvened and never looked back.“There’s a certain civility among us now,” Valenzuela says. “None of us are as brusque as we once were. We’re too old to have shouting matches.”The revivified band hit the road hard, earning a well-deserved reputation as one of the busiest touring acts in the world, playing close to 150 shows a year. Those chops were readily apparent on 2006’s Major Lodge Victory – Gin Blossoms’ long awaited fourth album and first new recording in almost a decade. Rave reviews followed, as did a top 10 Triple A smash in the album’s lead single, “Learning The Hard Way.” The album’s second single, “Long Time Gone,” quickly became another favorite among both fans and the critics and Major Lodge Victory made Billboards Top 10 Independent Albums. Next, Gin Blossoms recorded “No Chocolate Cake” and released the single “Miss Disarray” which is now one of the most requested songs in the band’s live set and the album reached #1 on Amazon’s sales chart. These talented tunesmiths promise the inevitable arrival of new material and as they approach their third decade, Gin Blossoms remain a rare breed – rock ‘n’ roll lifers, destined to continue creating, crafting, and performing for audiences ever rapt by their glorious catalog of material. “We’re entertaining and we have chops,” says Wilson, “but it really comes down to the songs. The reason we’re still here is that we have good songs. When young musicians ask me for advice, what’s the best thing to do to further my career, I always say, ‘Write good songs.’ It always comes down to that.”The band’s fusion of Pop, Melodic Rock, Folk and Country elements took the airwaves by siege, making the band an MTV playlist hostage for almost a decade and the group a natural 90’s mainstay. From their breakout album through today, Robin, Jesse, Bill and Scotty have sold over 10 million records and are one of the most in demand 90’s live artists who began at the end of the grunge era. In February 2017 the band went back in the studio recording a new album in time for release this Summer. Fans will get a taste of the new album as it works its way into their live set beginning this April. http://www.ginblossoms.net/ This is a rain or shine event. All sales are final.
